Hiking Tips with Young Kids

We were so excited about having our son, during the pregnancy that we began looking for a baby carrier to bring him on our pacific northwest (PNW) adventures.

Here’s 3 things we learned in the process:

1. Initial hikes should start shorter, 0.5-2.5 miles on generally flat or rolling terrain. This allowed for our son to get used to the feel and my shoulders to his shifting weight pack.

2. Kids who are at least 16 lbs. (6 months or so) are good candidates, as long as they have full head and neck control. Make sure your child plus the gear in the pack weighs no more than 48 lbs.

3. Facebook marketplace is a great resource. Once the kids outgrow the packs most parents want to sell them at 1/2-1/3 or the original cost to make room in the garage.
